Connect
any instrument or serial device directly to a network (Ethernet) with
a Lantronix MSS1 and communicate with it via TAL Technologies
TCP-Wedge, TCP/IP communications software.
TAL Technologies and Lantronix can provide the user with
a complete Ethernet-based data acquisition and instrument
control solution. TAL is a software company specializing
in data acquisition software and Lantronix is a network equipment
manufacturer.
Lantronix, Irvine CA, developed the MSS1 Micro Serial Server
to enable users to connect serial devices, modems, data loggers
and instruments directly to an Ethernet network without the
need for a PC interface. It is ideal for connecting devices
throughout a plant, research or manufacturing facility directly
to Ethernet, so data is available to any computer on the
network. It eliminates the need for computers on the factory
floor just for data collecting.
TAL Technologies, Philadelphia PA, has been providing serial
data acquisition products for many years. It has recently
released TCP-Wedge software. This runs on any 32 bit Windows
PC and allows the user to communicate directly from any Windows
application program to any TCP/IP address. Each Lantronix
MSS1 has its own IP address and hence TCP-Wedge can input
data from each port directly into spreadsheets, Excel, Wonderware,
FixDMACS, Labview, MMIs, databases, control packages, etc
any
application program.
TCP-Wedge also allows the user to send commands and data
out to any IP address including the MSS1s. This provides
full device control from within your Windows applications.
Some advantages of Ethernet Data Acquisition include:
- Inexpensive: Economies of scale and competition help
to keep the cost of setting up an Ethernet network low
compared with other fieldbus options.
- High speed and capacity.
- Flexibility: Many suppliers of hardware and software
available.
- Reliability: Ethernet automatically provides high integrity
data handling.
Some advantages of Lantronix MSS1 and TCP-Wedge include:
- MSS1: Hook-up scales, bar code scanners, PLCs, measuring
devices, flow meters, sensors, data loggers and other RS232
output devices DIRECTLY to your Ethernet network.
- TCP-Wedge: Input data directly from any IP address (over
Ethernet or Internet) directly into any Windows,
Windows 95 or NT application. Also sends commands and data
out to IP addresses.
- Together the MSS1 and TCP-Wedge provide Ethernet-based
data acquisition and control of serial devices and instruments
located anywhere in your facility.
- Low cost: The complete solution, MSS1 plus TCP-Wedge,
is under $1000. For connecting additional serial devices
to your network you will need additional MSS1s however,
TCP-Wedge can communicate with any number of IP addresses.
In addition to TCP-Wedge, TAL Technologies provides a full
range of serial data acquisition software products to collect
data from ANY serial instrument or device. Visit www.taltech.com for
TALs full line of data acquisition and bar code software
products. Also visit www.lantronix.com for Lantronixs
full line of networking equipment including multiport serial
to ethernet servers, print servers and switches. Visit booth
# 3434 at the National Manufacturing Week, Industrial Automation
Show, March 16-19, 1998 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Both
TAL and Lantronix representatives will be there to demonstrate
their new Ethernet-based DA system and to answer your questions
TCP-Wedge $495 (includes WinWedge and File-Wedge).
