Press Release

TCP-Com - Serial to TCP/IP Converter Software

January, 1998

TAL Technologies, Inc., Philadelphia PA,
is pleased to announce the release of an innovative new software product, TCP-Com.

TCP-Com allows any of the serial (RS232) ports on your PC to interface directly to a TCP/IP network. This makes it possible for any other computer on the same network to access the serial ports on the PC where TCP-Com is running through a TCP/IP socket connection.

For example, you could connect a serial device (bar code reader, electronic balance or electronic measuring instrument) to a COM port on your PC, run TCP-Com and then connect to the device from any other PC on your network through a TCP/IP socket connection. This would allow you to use TCP-Wedge™, Telnet™ or any other TCP/IP communications software to read or write to the serial device directly from any PC located on the same network. TCP-Com can also be used to pass serial data across a corporate intranet or over the Internet.

TCPcom

Uses

  • Attach data collection devices - modems, bar code scanners, sensors, gages, meters, RF equipment, telephone PBX systems, laboratory instruments, etc. - to the serial ports of your Windows PC and have that data from the device available to any other workstation in a TCP/IP based network (i.e. ethernet, Internet).
  • Use your LAN, WAN or the Internet as a giant serial cable. Send and receive serial data across your network or anywhere in the world in real-time.
  • Use TCP-Com to make serial data available over a TCP/IP network and then use TCP-Wedge to collect the data from IP addresses on that network directly into any Windows application, Access, Excel, Word, FoxPro, Oracle, etc.

Ease of Use

Just select the serial port and the serial communications parameters for that port and enter an IP address and a socket number. Then activate! It's that easy!

FREE Software

To test TCP-Com for yourself download our FREE 30-day evaluation software. This is a full working version to let you test the speed and power of this software at no risk. Visit the Free Software section for more free demos.

Features

  • Supports up to 115Kb serial communications.
  • Supports up to 16 com ports simultaneously.
  • Supports up to 16 IP addresses as either a client or server.

History

TAL Technologies specializes in serial communications software, with its market-leading serial data acquisition software, SoftwareWedge. A year ago TAL released TCP-Wedge for TCP/IP, Ethernet or Internet based, data acquisition. With the combination of these two products TAL started to get requests for software to provide the "missing-link", i.e. to make serial data available on TCP/IP network and TCP/IP data available on serial ports.

TCP-Com is sold in a two license package so that it can be installed on 2 PCs simultaneously. This is to allow users to attach a serial device to one PC, have TCP-Com transmit the data over a network, i.e. ethernet or the Internet, to another PC where TCP-Com would make the data available at a serial port.

TCP-Com $259 for 2 PC licenses
WinWedge Pro + TCP-Wedge + TCP-Com $495
