Summary: The Moderna Group — an Ecuadorian wheat-products manufacturer operating the country’s second-largest bakery and two flour mills — uses WinWedge in two production systems: feeding a Mettler Toledo Jaguar weighing terminal’s recipe data into an Informix database for consumption control, and feeding a Mettler Toledo digital scale’s QC weights into Excel for statistical analysis.
The Challenge
Industrial baking and milling live and die by weights: recipe batching must match formulas exactly, raw material consumption must reconcile against production, and finished-product weights must stay within statistical control. Moderna needed live scale data in two very different destinations — a corporate Informix database for recipe and consumption tracking, and Excel spreadsheets for statistical QC — without manual transcription in either path.
The Solution
Both paths run on WinWedge. In the batching system, a Mettler Toledo Jaguar industrial weighing terminal controls recipe weighing; WinWedge collects the Jaguar’s serial output and inputs it in real time into the Informix database, where actual consumption is compared against the recipe database. On the QC line, a Mettler Toledo digital scale sends product weights through WinWedge into a statistical Excel spreadsheet designed to track and chart product weight distributions for quality assurance.
