Overview of the system

  • Embedded DEC PDP-11 computer collects Aircraft maintenance information.
  • This data is transferred via a serial/RS232 connection to a Windows PC running WinWedge Pro.
  • WinWedge Pro feeds the data real-time into the CMDI software via Dynamical Data Exchange (DDE).
  • This displays the maintenance information in real-time and also drives a cockpit CMDI (Display) unit.

Real-time Serial Data Via DDE to Windows app

WinWedge Pro is installed on a PC is set to receive serial data from an embedded DEC PDP-11 computer in an aircraft maintenance trainer. The DEC Assembly program generates the “Global” flags and some numeric data. WinWedge transfers these flags and data to the Color Multi-function Display Indicator (CMDI) simulation software via a DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) link. WinWedge fully supports transferring serial data via DDE to other DDE supporting Windows applications such as the CMDI software. The Windows-based CMDI software drives a simulated cockpit 4×4 CMDI (Color Multi-function Display) Unit that is used to display maintenance data.
